Cult favorite jewelry designer Lou Zeldis was known by some for his work as a professional Broadway actor, known to others as being “an artists’ artist,” and here at Reliquary we feel lucky to have known him as a friend. After retiring from the U.S. theater circuit, Lou moved to Bali, where he began working with local artisans, learning their jewelry and textile traditions and ultimately creating a prolific collection of exquisite work. Lou elevated found objects such as pebbles, shells, and raw gemstones, with 22k gold-wrapping and sandcast silver techniques to result in jewelry that is both organic and elegant. Since his passing in 2012, his remaining pieces have become a testament to his artistic mission to locate the permanence in the impermanent.
